
TOUR: PUERTO MALDONADO MANU NATIONAL PARK 8 days / 7 nigths
Manú National Park is a biosphere reserve located in Madre de Dios. It is the largest National Park in Peru and protects several ecological zones, more than 15,000 species of plants and up to 250 varieties of trees as well as over 1000 species of birds;that is why this National Park is acclaimed as having one of the highest abundances of land vertebrates ever found in Latin American tropical forests.
ITINERARY:
DAY1: CUSCO / PAUCARTAMBO / CLOUDS FOREST / PILCOPATA
We will leave Cuzco city early in the morning, walking through some Andean villages and visiting the pre-incas tombs of Ninamarca also known as “Chullpas”. After that we will go to Paucartambo, a tipical colonial town.
Continuing with the trip, we will ascend through the Forest of clouds, stopping to give you the opportunity to see endemic species such as the spectacled bear, the Cock-of-the-Rocks (Rupicolaperuviana), the Amazonian Umbrellabird (Cephalopterosornatus), trogons (Trogon sp.), orchids, heliconias and primitive ferns. At night we will arrive to Pilcopata town where we will stay at a very confortable shelter.
DAY 2: ATALAYA / BOCA MANU
Early in the morning after breakfast we will appreciate the cortege dance of the “cock of the rocks” national bird that has a showy plumage with red and orange intense colors. After the breakfast we will continue our trip by bus across the high Jungle arriving to Pilcopata´s inhabited place. Later we will arrive to Atalaya, located at the shore of the river Madre de Dios at 700. masl.where we will see many different kinds of birds like herons, vultures, cormorants, etc. until arriving to our private shelter where we will spend the night.
DAY 3: MACAW CLAY LICK / LIMONAL
This day we will go to a floating hideaway located in front of the macaw clay lick and our guide will explain to us the reason whyparrots and macaws visit this place every day. After this spectacular show we will start our trip by boat to the ranger station Limonal.Overnight in the camp.
DAY 4: OTORONGO CAMP
Our journey by boat will continue and we will find out why the Manu is so famous for its wildlife, since at the banks of the river we will see great groups of turtles, white caimans or perhaps a capybara and much more. In the afternoon we will arrive to our Otorongo Camp to visit later the trailsnear the lake with the help of our guide who will teach us the secrets and functioning of the tropical forest.
DAY 5: COCHA EL SALVADOR
At first hour we will have the opportunity to visit the “Cocha El Salvador”, using the catamaran again and being able to appreciate some species of our fauna such as the Giant Otter (PteronuraBrasiliensis), endangered species, and a great and rare variety of birds. In the same way we will see the Black Cayman (Melanosuchusniger), the Hoatzín (Ophistocomushoatzín), the monkey spider (atelespaniscus), etc. Later we will return to the camping where our friendly personnel will be hoping to offer youthe breakfast. We will cross a primary forest with a great diversity of species arriving after 4 hours of a long walk at cochaOtorongo, lagoon where we will see an observation tower of 15 meters of height and from which we will have the opportunity to appreciate the landscape of the surrounding forest having the possibility of seeing the resident family of the giant otters.We will spend the afternoon walking the main trails, searching for monkeys and returning then to our camp.
DAY 6: BOCA MANU
This day we will wake up with the howlers scream to start our way back to Cusco, getting first to Boca Manu, small town located in the confluence of the Manu Rivers and Alto Madre de Dios spending the night surrounded by the magic of the Amazonian forest.
DAY 7: PILCOPATA SHELTER
Very early in the morning after breakfast we will return to Atalaya port where we will take a bus to the Pilcopata shelter. Overnight in Pilcopata shelter.
DAY 8: CUSCO
This day we will take the bus to Cusco visiting again the cloudforest.
