Salkantay Trek To Machu Picchu Peru Tour

TOUR: SALKANTAY TREK TO MACHU PICCHU
5 days / 4 nigths

This trek combines perfectly the cultural and the natural attractions which we'll be able to enjoy with the magnificent sights of the Salkantay snow-peak: the domain of the Apus where the mountain Gods watch over Machu Picchu. This road will lead us straight back to the Inca-times, accompanied by the ApusSalkantay and Humantay.

ITINERARY:

DAY 1: CUSCO – MOLLEPATA – SORAYPAMPA
Very early in the morning we will be picked up by our guide to take the bus to Mollepata (start point of the trek), where we will get ready to walk up to Cruzpata, place where we will have lunch and after a few minutes of rest we will continue walking to Soraypampa (3850masl). The scenery is absolutely amazing at this point, in where we will have time to appreciate the nature. Finally we will stop and put our first campsite before dinner.

DAY 2: SORAYPAMPA– SALKANTAY – CHAULLAY
After a good breakfast we will start the hardest part of the trek, passing through the site called “Pampa Salkantay”, going then to the left side of the Umantay glacier which is located near the Salkantaythe highest point (over 4540 masl). In this place we will stop to take some pictures of the beautiful views. After one hour of rest, we will have lunch on Huayrac Pampa. Then we will continue go down for 4 hours to the town of Chaullay at 2900 masl.where we will camp .

DAY 3: CHAULLAY - LA PLAYA – SANTA TERESA
After breakfast we will leave Chaullay, in order to have a nice walk for approximately five hours as we appreciate some orchids and cornfields along the way (the thermal baths of Ccolpapampa are additional), observing cascades, fruit trees and a great variety of flowers along the way that will lead us to the place named la Playa, where we will have lunch. Then we will go to Santa Teresa, the place where we will spend the night.

DAY 4: SANTA TERESA – HYDROELECTRICA – AGUAS CALIENTES
Around 8am we will take the transportation for about one hour towards Santa Teresa town from we will take a walk for half an hour to arrive to the Urubamba River, which is going to be crossed by cable (a very popular mean of transportation used in this area). During this trip we will have the opportunity to see from far away the Lost City of the Incas: Machu Picchu. After these spectacular experiences we will continue our journey until getting the hydroelectric station where we will have lunch and a good rest. Later, at approximately 3.40pm, we will take the train to AguasCalientestown, getting there at about 5pmand we will spend the night at a hotel.

DAY 5: AGUAS CALIENTES – MACHUPICCHU – CUSCO
We have to wake up early in the morning to have breakfast and take the first bus to Machu Picchuwhere our guide will explain to us the meaning and importance of this beautiful place. Besides you will have the chance of climbing the famous Huaynapicchu from where the view of Machu Picchu and its surroundings is amazing. In the afternoon we will take the train back to Cusco that takes around four hours, getting there at night and spending the night in a hotel.
