PERU TOUR: LIMA – AREQUIPA – CUSCO – POSADA AMAZONAS

We will know in 12 days the three regions of Peru with this fabulous tour which starts with Arequipa the white City, seeing places such as Santa Catalina Monastery, the famous Colca Canyon and the Condor Cross. Cusco will wait for us later to show us its wonders such as the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu, to visit finally the amazing jungle with Puerto Maldonado and Posada Amazonas, the lodge of your dreams.

ITINERARY:

DAY 1: ARRIVAL IN LIMA
Reception and transfer to the selected hotel.Overnight in LIMA.

DAY 2: AREQUIPA / CITY TOUR - SANTA CATALINA MONASTERY
After breakfast, transfer from the hotel to the airport to take the domestic flight (airfare NOT included). Upon arrival to theAirport Rodriguez Ballón, reception and transfer to the selected hotel.In the afternoon, we will start the visit to the “White City” with a three hour sightseeing tour including: The Main Square and Yanahuara Church that is one of the most representative colonial churches of the city, dating from 1750, with a baroque front and located in the main Square of the legendary district of the same name, whose narrow side streets and old houses with orchards make of this villa the most colorful one. In addition, it has a viewer with arcades made of sillar from which part of the citycan be appreciated, including a beautiful view of the Misty Volcano.

Later we will visit the Monastery of Santa Catalina, a citadel located in Arequipa downtown, founded on 1540 by Spaniards, in which interior there is a museum that keeps one of the most important samples of religious art in the continent, including an art gallery that contains works from the Cuzco school, the highest expression of the fusion of the Spanish and the Incas cultures, works from Spanish, Italian and Peruvian masters, samples of colonial art and imagery works with wood carvings. After finishing our tour, we will return to the hotel. Overnightin Arequipa.

DAY 3: COLCA CANYON
After breakfast, we will initiate the excursion to the Colca Canyon, where there are 20 different species of cactus and 170 kinds of birds. On the way we will visit the beautiful Yura town, the VolcanosChachani and Misty, Pampa Cañahuas, the thermal baths in “La Calera”, LaPulpera, Sibayo and Chivay getting there around 13.00. Overnight in Chivay Town.

DAY 4: CRUZ DEL CONDOR / AREQUIPA
After breakfast, we will go to the Condor's Cross, we will see the magnitude of the Colca Canyon and the spectacular flight of the majestic Condor can be appreciated. In the afternoon we will return to the our hotel in Arequipa. Overnight.

DAY 5: AREQUIPA / CUSCO – CITY TOUR
Transfer to the airport to take the flight to Cusco.(airfare NOT included). Assistance on your arrival and transfer to the selected hotel with a welcome Mate, having some rest to acclimatize yourself to the altitude.
In the afternoon we will start visiting Cusco on a guided sightseeing tour knowing the Main Square, the Cathedral and the Temple of the Sun or Koricancha, to make then a pleasant long walk by the San Blas district, the cradle of the most famous artists and artisans of Cuzco. We will visit its beautiful church that has an impressive pulpit made of wood in the 17th century that shows the delicate work of the craftsmen, and also we will see their workshops located near the Main Square. While returning, we will pass through the Hatunrumiyocstreet to appreciate the Stone of the Twelve Angles. Then, we will drive out of the City to visit the Inca sites of Kenko, Tambomachay (the Inca baths), PucaPucara and the impressive Fortress of Sacsayhuaman strategically constructed on a hill from where the famous enormous worked stones walls can be appreciated, some of which of 9 ms/30 feet tall. When the tour ends we will return to the hotel. Overnight in Cusco.

DAY 6: CUZCO / VALLE SAGRADO DE LOS INCAS
In the morning we will have a full day excursion to the “Sacred Valley of the Incas”, where we will appreciate the typical Indian Market of Pisac, which is open on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays (this day a mass in Quechua, the native language, is celebrated). After having lunch in a local countryside restaurant, we will visit the Inca Fortress and Citadel of Ollantaytambo, which was built to guard the entrance to this part of the Valleyand to protect it from possible invasions of the forest settlers; it was also constructed by a series of superposed terraces.
Finally we will visit the famous town of Chincheros where the remains of Tupac Yupanqui´s estate are found. We will admire the perfectly preserved Inca wall in the Main Square to visit then the beautiful colonial temple (with interesting frescoes on the main door and built on the foundations of an Inca building) and will see also its typical artisan market. After finishing our tour, we will return to the city. Overnight in Cusco.

DAY 7: CUSCO / TOUR TO MACHUPICCHU
In the morning after breakfast, we will be transferred to the train Station for a train journey to the famous Inca Citadel of Machu Picchu observing in our way the diversity of flora and fauna with the different ecological floors. We will arrive to Agua Calientes, located in the province of Urubamba, atan altitude of 2,400 masl. to take then a 25-minute bus drive of winding road, to “The Lost City of the Incas”. Once there, we will have a guided tour to The Historical Sanctuary of Machu Picchu and visit the Main Plaza, the Circular Tower, the Sacred Sun Clock, the Royal Quarters, the Temple of the Three Windows and various burial grounds. After the tour, we will have time to stroll around the Archaeological Site at leisure and then we will return by bus to AguasCalientes town. Overnight in AguasCalientes.

DAY 8: AGUAS CALIENTES / CUSCO.
Excellent opportunity to wake up early and Visit the Citadel of Machu Picchu for the second time by your own and the return to the city of Cusco will be in the afternoon. Overnight in Cusco.

DAY 9: PUERTO MALDONADO - POSADA AMAZONAS
Transfer from the hotel to the airport to take the flight to Puerto Maldonado (airfare NOT included). Upon arrival, reception and transfer to the Tambopata river port in Puerto Maldonado, situated at the confluence of Madre de Dios and Tambopata Rivers. After a brief survey of the town we will depart on a 1 hour ride via Infierno road, followed by 30 minutes boat journey by motorized canoe to Posada Amazonas, having lunch at our arrival. . During our voyage we may see bird species typical of the river or forest edge such as: Black Skimmer, Pied Lapwing, Capped Heron, Jabiru Stork, Roadside Hawk, and several species of kingfishers, swallows and flycatchers. When we arrive at Posada Amazonas we will unpack and unwind. We will receive a short orientation and a complete briefing on the lodge of the Ecotourism Project before our afternoon activity: the canopy tower. We will return later for dinner. Overnight in the Lodge.

DAY 10: POSADA AMAZONAS - TRES CHIMBADAS LAKE
We will be up very early in the morning for a visit to the TresChimbadas oxbow lake. We will look for giant river otters, turtles, hoatzin, and wading birds. The giant river otters that are seen in TresChimbadas belong to a resident family of nine. We will return to the lodge’s trails in time for a visit to a small parakeet clay lick: dozens and sometimes hundreds of Blue Headed Parrots, Orange-Cheeked Parrots, Cobalt-winged parakeets, and sometimes even the rare Rock Parakeet congregate here on clear days to ingest clay. This congregation creates a riotous and colorful wildlife spectacle where the greens, oranges, reds and blues of the parrots dance around the bank as each individual parrot competes for their turn to lick the clay.

We will return to the Lodge watching in our way a beautiful little parrot lick and after having lunch, we will visit the community’s ethno botanical center. From this little shop, the community has been registering the use of medicinal plants from elders and planting, producing and distributing them for over ten years. After dinner we will spend the night in the Lodge.

DAY 11: POSADA AMAZONAS-PUERTO MALDONADO / LIMA
After breakfast we will take the boat to return to Puerto Maldonado and to the airport to come back to Lima (airfare NOT included). Upon arrival we will be transferred to the selected hotel. Overnight in LIMA.

DAY 12: LIMA CITY TOUR / INTERNATIONAL FLIGHT
After breakfast, we will start the City Tour visiting the most important places such as: The Main Squaredeclared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, the Cathedral, the Archbishopric, the Palace of Government, the City Hall of Lima, the railway station and the monumental Convent of San Francisco, where we will see its cloisters, catacombs and the religious museum. We will continue the visit with Lima residential zones, arriving then to the district of Miraflores, where we will have a spectacular view of the Pacific Ocean and its Beaches. At an appropriate hour, transfer to the International Airport Jorge Chavez.
